Downright luxurious hotel at a very reasonable price.
The room was a good size, larger than most European hotels, more comparable to what one would find in the US. Nicely furnished, with a very comfortable bed (admittedly, just a double-sized mattress rather than a king or queen), the room also had a small balcony, with a marvelous view of the harbor, the old Venetian fortifications and the Aegean. The bathroom was a good size and very comfortable. If there is a negative about the facilities, it was that the Wifi signal was weak and erratic.
A particular strong point of the hotel is its breakfast buffet, included with the room. The buffet was enormous, including both warm and cold items, and a number of culinary specialties of Crete. (The island of Crete is something of a foody's paradise.) Staff were friendly and helpful, speaking excellent English. The hotel has connections to tour operators, but, unfortunately, none of the tours fit our schedule, so I can't comment on them. There's a computer and printer available--not so common in Greek hotels--with which I could check in online for our departing flight and print boarding passes.
The hotel's location is excellent, just a short walk from the port and ferry terminal, and also a short walk to the intercity bus station. Both the intercity and the municipal bus can take you to the airport. The latter is quite close to the city, so even a cab ride is not very expensive. In a neighborhood, with a profusion of restaurants and tavernas, the hotel is about a 10 minute walk from Heraklion's main tourist attraction, the Archaeological Museum, with its astonishing collection of Minoan artifacts. Once you've seen the museum, and the excavation site at Knossos from which the artifacts came, you've exhausted the tourist attractions of Heraklion, frankly, not a very charming city. The intercity bus can take you to better tourist places--Aigos Nikolaos, Rethymno or Chania. If you would rather drive yourself, there must be at least a half dozen auto rental places within a few blocks of the hotel.
All in all, this hotel is a great place to stay as a tourist, and would even work pretty well for a business traveler.
